Karen Harwell is co-author of a guidebook Exploring a Sense of Place: How to create your own local program reconnecting with Nature, an experiential program through which people have the opportunity to come into relationship with the place where they live – its deep time geologic story, its weather and climate patterns, its wildlife –flora and fauna, accessing the wisdom of the indigenous people living sustainably in place for thousands of years. Aldo Leopold, an American author, scientist, ecologist, and university professor– best known for his book, A Sand County Almanac, stated when people get to know the place where they live, they will care for it. The program and guidebook were developed through The Foundation for Global Community, an educational foundation based in exploring who are we, where have we come from, and what is our role in this magnificent 13.8 billion year story? www.exploringsenseofplace.org
